The Blue Mountains
Visit the Blue Mountains in Katoomba, Australia. Travel and tours in Bali, Indonesia with PurpleGiraffeTravel.com
Living in Sydney means I'm relatively close to the Blue Mountains in Katoomba, and I can drive, take the train, or join a tour.

I admit I don't go very often - maybe every couple of years or so - but when I do I am always blown away by the beauty of the surroundings.

Why are they called 'blue'?

When you look at the mountains in the distance, they have a fuzzy blue tinge to them, and have been imortalised in many paintings by artists in Australia - well-known, famous, not-so-famous.

You can find many paintings of the Blue Mountains in art galleries in Australia and overseas.

Take a Tour

Where to begin? There are so many terrific tours. You could spend a day of 4WD adventure in the secluded valleys of the beautiful Blue Mountains. You will probably see kangaroos on the journey, and koalas in amongst towering eucalyptus trees.

The views from Govett's Leap, the Three Sisters [3 mountains together] and the breathtaking Jamieson Valley are well worth the visit. You could even have lunch at a mountain pub [hotel] in a charming mountain village.

How far from Sydney?

If you want to do a one-day tour to the Blue Mountains, you'll need to make an early start and plan to get home way after dark. Allow for 10 hours, or why not spend the night in one of the funky old pubs or motels?

You'll love it!
